Research Brief – The Medici Family and their Libraries in Florence

I will be doing my research project on the Medici family and their Libraries in Florence. My main interest in the Medici family stems from the television Series ‘the Borgia’s’ which only generally touched on the Medici family, their library and wealth, but it was enough to spike a curiosity in me to want to know more about the family and their Libraries!

The main subjects I will be investigating are the Family’s history and family tree, which I imagine will give me a broad scope of the who, how and when of the Medici Family as well as their rise and fall as a Dynasty. I will also be researching the creation and history of their Libraries in Florence, including what those libraries contained and accomplished, as well as who was directly involved with the creation of Libraries, including the buildings, art and the information keep within them.

These general subjects will give me a further understanding of the Medici Family and what they and their Libraries left to the world of History.

I will use various search strategies to find the material I require for this project, such as comprehensive database searches, various Metasearch engines, academic papers as well as online image and video Libraries. I am going to publish my research results in a series of 6 blog posts on the Blog site that I have created,  medicifamilylibrary.blogspot.com. These blog posts will be uploaded on a weekly basis and willincorporate the required referencing citations to confirm my research pathways and to acknowledge any required copyrights I may encounter.

I am very excited to take on this research project as the family was one of grand wealth, mystery and great tragedy and I look forward to uncovering such stories and sharing the information with my fellow students and the community at large.
